On the way to the top
20 April, 2008 – After the first half of the cycling season, it is time to make a review and an interim balance of the Cervélo-Lifeforce Pro Cycling Team.
The former time trial World Champion Kristin Armstrong upgraded her position in the UCI Road ranking from the 18th place (provisional list, update: 17.01.2008) to the 4th place (update: 14.04.2008) with a excellent performance of three victories in one-day-races, the overall victory in the Women’s Tour of New Zealand as well as two stages victories in this tour. She is now only 102,16 points behind the third ranked Noemi Cantele (ITA) and is now on the way to the top of the world.
But not only Armstrong was able to celebrate victories in this season. Also on the top position of the podium was standing Christiane Soeder (AUT) at the Geelong Tour 2008, one time for a stage victory and as well for the overall victory. Emma Rickards (AUS) finished second on the first UCI Worldcup in this season in Geelong (Australia). With Sarah Duester (GER) another rider of the Cervélo –Lifeforce Pro Cycling Team took a podium place. She managed a third place in the last stage of the Women’s Tour of New Zealand. Patricia Schwager (SUI) claimed victory at the Swiss road race “Memorial Jean Luisier“.
„I’m really satisfied with the season so far”, said Thomas Campana, team manager of the Cervélo-Lifeforce Pro Cycling Team, “Kristin Armstrong is a godsend for us, but all this top results could only be made because of a strong performance and optimal team work of the entire team with the additional riders Karin Thürig (SUI), Priska Doppmann (SUI), Pascale Schnider (SUI), und Caroline Steffen (SUI). It makes fun to work with such a team! “
